Leader of the opposition Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Isa Mustafa has written a letter to ambassadors of Quint countries, the OSCE and the EU Office in Kosovo about the failure of the President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci to appoint new members to the Central Election Commission (CEC). Mustafa said the CEC has been ‘dysfunctional’ for several months now and that Thaci’s failure to act in nominating new members is in violation to the Constitution of Kosovo. Furthermore, Mustafa said that on 13 December 2018 President Thaci asked the LDK to nominate only one candidate for CEC, “thus acting in clear violation of the formula laid down in the Constitution.” LDK considers Thaci’s move to be a tendency to guarantee majority in the CEC to the ruling coalition parties and plans to refer the issue to the Constitutional Court.
