Avdullah Hoti, head of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) parliamentary group, told a press conference in Pristina today that his party has rejected Assembly President Kadri Veseli’s invitation to join the negotiating team for the final talks with Serbia. Hoti argued that “legitimacy cannot be won at political roundtables” and that Veseli’s invitation “is an attempt to win the legitimacy that the ruling coalition lacks to govern Kosovo”. Hoti said: “At four political roundtables, we gave the ruling coalition the chance to agree on a way out from the institutional stalemate. But the arrogance of the ruling coalition has rendered impossible a solution to the crisis … The negotiating team has received only 59 votes, and this does not make up a simple majority in the Kosovo Assembly. It should be clear to them that dialogue cannot be led by the seventh party or by those that have foreign mandates in the Assembly. Dialogue cannot be led by a platform or law that sidesteps the Constitution. We are involved in dialogue to remake the state of Kosovo. The platform and law for dialogue is the Constitution of Kosovo. The team for dialogue is a legitimate government, with a key supervisory role by the opposition and civil society. Allow me to reiterate that Mr. Veseli and Mr. Haradinaj must admit that they lack the power to lead the institutions. All parliamentary parties should meet and try to find a way out of the crisis. Only then we can attend a roundtable. Otherwise, we are in the opposition. We will play our role as an opposition according to the Constitution, a strong opposition that protects the interests of the people”.
