Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri submitted to the Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli petition calling for unification of two Mitrovica municipalities signed by 16,000 citizens. On the occasion, Bahtiri said that over 15,000 citizens continue to live as displaced and cannot go back to their homes in the north of Kosovo. Bahtiri said he was forced to launch the petition as since the resignation of the Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic, the municipality was being run by Serb parallel structures. Veseli on his part said the Assembly will address the petition in line with rules and regulations and called on the people of Kosovo to maintain calm and live together. “The petition will go to the parliamentary committee and will be followed by a decision in the interest of citizens. There is no provocation, Serbs will be treated in accordance to their rights, but Kosovo is an independent country. This is not a political but a humane initiative,” Veseli is quoted by Kallxo.com. The petition will also be submitted to the government and the president of Kosovo.
