After the meeting with President Hashim Thaci, Agim Bahtiri, mayor of Mitrovica South, expressed conviction that unification of Mitrovica is a process that will certainly happen.
“Not only with Thaci, but I am meeting all party leaders and internationals about this matter. I guarantee you that Mitrovica will unite. It is not an easy task to be reached but we are in the right path to make the Mitrovica that I dreamt about, and I left all that wealth such as my family and came to become mayor of this municipality, without a single personal interest,” Bahtiri said. “We have also written in our petition that we want to do this without affecting interests or borders of Kosovo state. I think that the petition signed by the citizens and which I submitted to Veseli, should be respected and I believe that there is no MP who has a single Albanian blood that would not vote unification of the city,” Bahtiri said.
“This is not related to the meetings or the dialogue with Serbia, that will be led by the delegation, I wish them success, but this nature of unification of the city comes from the serious wounds,” Bahtiri said adding that mistakes have to be corrected, citizens of the north will be treated equally, “because what happened with Mitrovica is a total discrimination of the citizens.”
