Kosovo has been hit by an escalating wave of strikes, prompted by the new law on salaries proposed by the government, which awaits debate in the Kosovo Assembly on January 31.
Although most medical staff suspended their 72-hour strike at the beginning of January, following negotiations with the government, surgeons continue not to perform surgeries besides urgent ones. Around 200 operations a day are being canceled as a result.
Surgeons are striking mainly in support of a demand for salaries that are coefficient to those of judges and prosecutors.
