Kosovo’s Minister of Justice, Abelard Tahiri, has reacted to the amendment of the draft law on salaries saying it is threatening independence of the judiciary. “I am deeply concerned with the fact that regulative parametres set out in this draft law have affected and degraded the salaries of judges and prosecutors by misappropriating the concept of judiciary’s independence,” Tahiri said. He said he disagrees entirely with the proposals made to the draft law which, he said, are in conflict to the Constitution of Kosovo. Tahiri said he will request Assembly’s relevant committees to once again carefully review the way judicial sector is treated in the draft law as this “is vital to the functioning of our democracy.” “I expect in the coming days, the MPs to reflect and enable the furthering of reforms initiated last year for creating an adequate working environment for judges and other professionals,” Tahiri said in a statement.
