The Chairman of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Vuk Jeremic, announced he will officially visit the US next week to “remove the danger” of Washington preventing the change of authorities in Serbia, TV N1 reports.

Jeremic warned that Kosovo might get a seat in the UN by the end of this year. He also assessed the visit to Washington will not be easy, since “the US counts on Vucic” which can be concluded based on the two letters the US President Donald Trump sent to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Jeremic added the Alliance for Serbia advocates for resolution of the Kosovo issue in line with the Constitution of Serbia and UN SC Resolution 1244.

“We oppose, and we will continue opposing membership of Kosovo in UN, and as long as Peoples’ Party is a member of the Alliance, we will not change our stance on Kosovo,” Jeremic said. He also noted the stance on Kosovo is defined in the Agreement with People, adding it should have been signed earlier and offered to the citizens.

Jeremic told Danas daily he would have meetings at the State Department, Congress and he would deliver a lecture at Georgetown Academy.

The Serbian opposition has joined anti-government protests that are being held every Saturday for nearly three months in Serbia. Protesters want more media freedom, less violent attacks against opposition figures and journalists and an end to the rule of President Aleksandar Vucic, which they describe as authoritarian.
