Kosovo Assembly MP from Vetevendosje Movement, Albulena Haxhiu and member of the leadership of this political party, Tinka Kurti, held on Monday a press conference on discrimination of women on employment. Haxhiu said women should be employed and they should have dignifying salaries instead of being discriminated and oppressed. “Discrimination and oppression, physical and psychological violence, use of girls and women is closely related with economic dependence and oppression. She added that several changes of legislation are not being implemented. According to her, the draft law on work proceeded by the government, does not include defense mechanisms against discrimination of women on employment, and furthermore, there is not a single authority where cases can be reported. “The reason why women are not employed is because employers consider maternity leave to be a problem,” she said and added that maternity leave should remain twelve months, but it should be divided between mother and father.

Tinka Kurti on the other hand said while women’s unemployment is eighty percent, it is clear that we are not talking about individual fates but result of wrong and harmful policies of the state. “So, we are not talking about lack of participation but about exclusion,” she said.
