Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj said at an event marking 8 March, International Women’s Day, that more needs to be done to ensure empowerment of women. “The government remains the largest employer with a women representation at 40% at the civil service but we need to work more to empower women and their position in the Kosovo society in all fields and all communities,” Haradinaj said noting that the initiative for registration of joint property ownership is encouraging. “In 2016 there were only 105 cases while by the end of 2018, 4,100 couples used this affirmative measure,” he added. Haradinaj mentioned the recent appointment of a woman to lead the Ministry of Agriculture as a positive step and noted that they are working to increase the number of women in decision-making posts.
