Koha quotes sources saying that President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci is expected to soon announce early mayoral elections for four northern municipalities. “We don’t know why but we just received information that the President is interested in immediately announcing new elections,” a member from the Central Elections Commission (CEC) told Koha adding: “We were told he will announce the decision today.”
Source said the elections are expected to be announced for 19 May and the move comes after the mayors of Mitrovica North, Leposaviq/Leposavic, Zubin Potok, and Zvecan resigned their posts on November of last year as a sign of protest to the import tariff on Serbia introduced by the government of Kosovo.
