The Austrian daily Österreich, published an article, which says that the current Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, will be elected President of Kosovo next week. According to the daily, Thaci has majority support of the population of Kosovo, being that the 48 year old had led Kosovo towards its independence.
“The president of Kosovo is elected by the Parliament of 120 deputies. The first two rounds of voting require two thirds of the votes, while in the third round, 60 votes are sufficient for the election,” reports this daily.
Österreich also reports about the announcements of the representatives of the opposition to organize a protest, on the eighth anniversary of Kosovo’s independence. According to the paper, the opposition is trying through protests to oblige the government of Kosovo to withdraw from two agreements: the one on the Association/Community for Serb-majority Municipalities reached with Serbia and the agreement reached with Montenegro on border demarcation.
