Opposition blocks Kosovo Assembly session (all media)
Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli ordered a half-hour break in today’s Assembly session after members of the opposition prevented the start of the session by standing around the speaker’s stand. Head of Vetevendosje parliamentary group Glauk Konjufca said there can be no regular session until Prime Minister Isa Mustafa comes back and withdraws signature from the agreement with Serbia establishing the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities. Head of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) parliamentary group Adem Grabovci said the ruling coalition was never against the debate but opposition’s actions deny the rights of MPs to express their views. The situation remained the same after the break as opposition representatives remained at the speaker’s stand. This led the Speaker Veseli to end the session and call a press conference where he said that the recent actions of the opposition undermined parliamentary democracy. “I am making efforts to overcome this situation but we will not stand by and watch the Assembly turn into a stage. We will continue with the work of the Assembly and will not allow the minority to block the majority,” Veseli said. Opposition, meanwhile, announced it will continue to block the Assembly for as long as the government does not recall agreements with Serbia.
