"No new conditions for Serbia on EU path" (B92)

Germany "supports Serbia's European Union membership and there are no new conditions for the country on the path towards the EU."

However, it is expected to coordinate its foreign policy with EU positions, German Ambassador to Serbia Axel Dittmann said Thursday.

Commenting on a statement by Michael Roth, Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office, who said that Serbia cannot maintain neutral political positions and that it must align them with those of the EU, Dittmann told Pink TV that it is not a new position.

Germany is an advocate of Serbia's EU membership and strongly supports Serbia's strategic decision to become an EU member state - it is the most important strategic decision, Dittmann said.

Efforts are under way towards opening the negotiation chapters related to the rule of law as it is the core of the modernization process, along with the economic reforms launched by the government, he said.

That is why we all want the chapters to be opened as soon as possible, Dittmann said.
