Giuzeppe Manzo: Belgrade has achieved a historically important agreement with Pristina on normalization of relations (NSPM/Tanjug)
Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuzeppe Manzo said that Italy is ready to assist Serbia in opening the first negotiation chapter with the EU in December.
"Italy, as a country presiding over the Council of the EU, stands ready to help Serbia open the first chapter in the talks with the EU. It is on Italy's agenda and it is the issue that will be put on the table,” said Manzo during the debate on the role of the presiding over the Council of EU held at the EU stand at Belgrade Book Fair.
Italian Ambassador said that there is no ‘tiredness’ of the EU enlargement, but that time of the opening of negotiation chapters doesn’t depend on Italy, but from all member states, bearing in mind that decisions with regard to EU enlargement are brought by consensus.
Manzo highlighted that Belgrade has achieved a ‘historically important’ agreement with Pristina on normalization of relations.
Italian Ambassador noted that his current chief, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, would in three days officially take office as head of European diplomacy and was the right person whose phone number ought to be dialed in order to “talk to Europe.”
