Jacobson: Elections, in accordance to international standards (Kosovapress)
US Embassy in Pristina is encouraged by initial reports indicating Sunday's elections were largely credible and consistent with international standards. The Embassy looks forward to working with the newly elected government on key issues that will help advance Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
In a statement to the media, the US Embassy says:
Reports from Kosovo media and civil society, combined with our own Embassy observer teams, suggest that Kosovo's authorities responded promptly to the sporadic reports of irregularities and alleged electoral manipulation. We are monitoring these reports closely and remain confident that the Central Elections Commission, Kosovo Police, and State Prosecutors' Office will continue their positive partnership in ensuring all incidents are thoroughly investigated and resolved in accordance with Kosovo law.
The Embassy appreciates the hard work by EULEX, the OSCE, and KFOR, which ensured all citizens could cast their vote in a safe and secure election. We also look forward to reviewing the EU Election Observation Mission's initial assessment report.
Building on the success of last year's municipal voting, yesterday's elections provided further proof that Kosovo is fully capable of holding fair and transparent elections that meet international standards. We remain encouraged by individuals’ efforts to express their democratic rights whether by casting ballots for the first time or by ensuring the credibility of the process. Kosovo’s strength lies in full participation and integration of all of Kosovo’s citizens in order to achieve a more prosperous future.
We appreciate the hard work of Kosovo's authorities, civil society, media, and political parties who each made vital contributions to yesterday's success. Most importantly, we congratulate Kosovo's citizens as their young country continues to take dramatic strides as it furthers its democratic development and European aspirations.
