Kosovo Hosts Serb Foreign Minister At Regional Meeting (RFE/RL)

Senior officials from six Balkan nations discussed regional infrastructure projects in Kosovo on March 25.

Among those present at the meeting in Pristina was the foreign minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.

It was the first time Kosovo's government has hosted such a senior Serbian official since declaring independence in 2008.

Dacic described his visit as a "good thing" to improve bilateral relations and create "opportunities to facilitate movement of goods, capital, and people."

Kosovo's Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci hailed the visit, which took place under tight security, as "a good sign."

"This is a step forward towards the full normalization of the relations between Kosovo and Serbia," he said.

At the meeting, Johannes Hahn, EU commissioner in charge of enlargement, said the bloc planned to give 1 billion euros for infrastructure projects to be finished by 2030.

Ministers from Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Kosovo agreed to coordinate the projects to create an integrated transport network.
