Janjic expects continuation of Brussels dialogue (RTS)
The chairperson of the Forum for Ethnic Relations Dusan Janjic said to Radio Television Serbia (RTS) that he expects continuation of the dialogue in Brussels, and that meeting will take place, very soon, between the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in relation to the EU accession process where certain things should be cleared. He explained that it is about two processes, one that refers to the dialogue and normalization of relations with Kosovo and the other one that refers to EU accession.
“What was agreed last night is a small victory, everyone will stick to its job in implementation,” said Janjic. He went on to say that Germany insists on the consistent implementation of the ‘two Germanies model’ and that one day, following that model, Kosovo and Serbia could seat together in the UN, whereas Serbia would not recognize Kosovo.
He further said that it is good that Serbia’s team and the government have raised the tensions on time and clearly set the line to which they would go. “The essence of negotiations with regard to EU accession is that one implements all acquisitions, they don’t recognize administrative line, they have only borders, thus it is present in certain terminology, however there is not a single word referring to the request that Serbia has to formally recognize Kosovo,” said Janjic and added that there are suggestions for Serbia not to hinder Kosovo’s participation in international organizations, as was the case at the regional level.
He reflected on eventual staging of a referendum and elections and said that those are very important political instruments for driving attention of the EU and Kosovo on what is your red line and whether you, in the capacity of incumbent government, could go any further. According to Janjic it all depends on whether the two other sides will keep insisting, particularly Brussels, on recognition of Kosovo, what will not be known, as he said, until December.
