Construction of mini-hydro power plant in Strpce continued on Saturday (KoSSev)
Despite of months-long protests by the local residents “Metkos Group” company from Pristina is continuing with the construction of a mini-hydro power plant at place called Obereka in Strpce municipality, KoSSev portal reported on Saturday.
Even though local residents prevented the construction on Friday, the company accompanied by the special police units from Urosevac and local police officers resumed construction only one day after.
More than 70 Strpce residents gathered to protest again. This time, however, they received a clear warning that “anyone approaching machinery would be arrested and prosecuted.“ According to the residents the company did not have necessary approval to resume construction on Saturday.
The representatives of “Metkos Group” arrived to the Obereke site today to continue building the mini-hydro power plant accompanied by approximately twenty members of the Kosovo police special unit and around fifteen local police officers. As in the previous months, the residents of Strpce – around seventy of them, gathered to prevent the construction. Today, however, they did not succeed in doing so, a resident of Strpce, Stojan Joksimovic told KoSSev.
