Rama: Same rights for Albanians in the Valley as for Serbs in Kosovo (Koha)

The Prime Minister of Albania, stated at the press conference after his meeting with Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, that Albanians in the south of Serbia deserve to have the same treatment as Serbs in northern Kosovo. “I believe that this is in the spirit of our joint effort to achieve on the relations of the region with the power of example and not with the example of power. I have never heard about any complaint from Serbs who live in Albania.

EU expects concrete results on the dialogue by June (Koha)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Serbia Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic are expected to meet in the first half of June, the paper reports. Although, Mustafa and Vucic were supposed to meet in May, according to the EU officials, the meeting in current circumstances would make no sense, because no moves were made in regards to the implementation of the agreements reached so far.  Unnamed EU officials said that they were disappointed with the non-implementation of the agreement on telecom and international telephony code for Kosovo.

The US State Department report “Kosovo 2015:Crime and Safety” states that the international/transnational terrorism threat in Kosovo is similar to that faced by most European nations. “The presence of U.S. military units provides anti-American terrorists with potential targets. Kosovo has seen a rise in Islamic extremism in recent years. In the summer of 2014, police arrested over 60 individuals on suspicion of participating in or supporting the fighting in Syria and Iraq.

Assembly to vote on special court today (Lajmi/Koha)

Citing unidentified sources, Lajmi reports that the Kosovo Assembly will hold an extraordinary session today to vote on the special court that will address war crimes allegations. The Assembly Presidency will meet at 11:00. The heads of parliamentary groups will also attend the meeting. “The Assembly Presidency, which will meet at 11:00, will call a parliamentary session for this afternoon and the establishment of the special court will be in the agenda,” the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the news site.

Judge Arta Rama-Hajrizi elected President of Constitutional Court (Koha)

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo issued a press release today saying that the Judges of this court, pursuant to Article 114, paragraph 5, of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, have elected Judge Mr. sc. Arta Rama-Hajrizi, as the new President of the Court. Judge Arta Rama-Hajrizi shall assume the office of the President of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo after the end of the mandate of the current President of the Court, Enver Hasani, on 26 June 2015. The mandate of the President of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo is three years.

More visa liberalization requirements for Kosovo (Koha)

The Kosovo-based think tank, Group for Legal and Political Studies, presented a study today into the visa liberalization process. The study found that there is a significant difference between the European Commission’s visa liberalization roadmap for Kosovo and those for other Western Balkans countries. According to the Group, Kosovo has had 50 more requirements than the regional countries.

Hyseni says he had no information from KIA on FYROM events (Koha)

Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Skender Hyseni, denied having had information on the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) provided to him by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA). He said his ministry did not receive any report from KIA about what happened in Kumanovo, FYROM. Hyseni said that what happened in FYROM is an exclusive responsibility of the Skopje authorities and added that they still don’t know exact number of people from Kosovo killed during the operation.

Ban: Kosovo to redouble efforts on establishment of special court (Koha)

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon on his quarterly report on Kosovo which will be reviews on 26 May, has welcomed the continuation of the Pristina – Belgrade dialogue and the reaching of agreement on judiciary, and stressed that one of the remaining crucial issues is the establishment of the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities.
