Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi did not talk about mutual recognitions between Kosovo and Serbia on Saturday when he justified to reporters the agreement reached one day earlier with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic.

“I signed the document as Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo and Mr. Dacic signed the document as Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia, therefore Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state and Serbia is sovereign,” Thaçi said. “Baroness Ashton was the guarantor, with continuous support from the United States of America and NATO.”

The paper recalls that Thaçi had promised that political dialogue – which would produce an agreement for normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia – would conclude with mutual recognition between the two countries. Thaçi said with the agreement Serbia has de jure recognized Kosovo. His Serbian counterpart however refuted Thaçi. “These are lies used by Kosovo Albanians, they want to show to their public that they were triumphant in these negotiations.”
