Mustafa: Let us remove all doubt over demarcation with Montenegro (media)
Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, told the Kosovo Government today that he withdrew the bill for the ratification of the border agreement with Montenegro from the Assembly last week, “because circumstances were not right to move forward on the matter”. Mustafa said: “there was a lot of pressure and also individual threats against MPs. I was not talking about any specific political party when I mentioned conditions, but I did say that we would not accept any conditions. I have begun consultations with all stakeholders including the mayors of the bordering municipalities with Montenegro, so that they can tell us if they have lost even a single square meter of their territory. I have also asked the Forestry Agency to tell us if they have lost any square meter of territory. I have also asked KEK [the Kosovo Power Corporation] to tell us where they put the transmitters at the borderline and from where Montenegro took over. We must create a climate of arguments. I will meet the Border Police today and they will give us information about which border points they managed. We will talk with everyone. I also ask on you as ministers to explain within your scope of activity all the issues related to that part of the border. We should leave no room for doubt and after we present the facts it will then be a matter of political willingness”. Mustafa said he welcomes the recent decision by the European Parliament’s Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, on the visa liberalisation process for Kosovo. “I agree that we cannot blame anyone about the delays in the visa liberalisation process. We bear all the responsibility. It is up to us to ratify the demarcation. We will be working with the opposition too. Before resending [the bill to the Assembly] I would like us to present all arguments,” he added.
