The Kumanovo threat (Koha Ditore)
KTV editor-in-chief Adriatik Kelmendi writes that, “being that Albania is a member of NATO, and the territory of Kosovo is guaranteed by the presence of NATO troops on the ground, the weakest link is the third country with the biggest Albanian population – the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). This is why there is an attempt to trigger conflicts with the involvement of Albanians in FYROM, which would then trigger reactions from Albanians in Kosovo and Albania and consequently the governments of the latter two countries”. Kelmendi argues that Albanians today cannot win anything by war, and that on the contrary they risk losing way too much. “First of all, everyone needs to be honest and admit that none of the wars of Albanians, be it in Kosovo, the Presevo Valley or in FYROM, would have been successful if Albanians did not enjoy international support, from the United States of America and other powerful and democratic countries in the West. Second, the geopolitical situation has changed … We need to say it openly, the United States in particular and the West in general, won’t be able to help Albanians as they have done 15 years ago, if Russia and its allies want to cause unrest in the region. If this happens, Albanians will be the biggest losers.”
