Visa liberalization and the violation of democracy (KlanKosova)
The member of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ardian Gjini, writes in an opinion piece today that the offensive claims that the opposition is preventing the visa liberalization for Kosovo is nothing but laying ground for justification. “With this approach, the government is trying to do two things: ensure that the eventual success in this regard will be attributed to the government, and to blame the opposition in case of failure in this regard,” Gjini writes.
According to him, until now, the main reasons for not having visa liberalization were the high level corruption, organized crime, irregular migration, and the fragile justice system. Now, Gjini writes, that it is being claimed that the main reason for the lack of free movement is the opposition. “Those who know the democratic process, know very well that the democratic process is immune to eggs and to the teargas. Although, not only in my opinion, it is not advisable to use it in the Assembly hall, yet it doesn’t affect the democratic process as it is being claimed,” says Gjini. “The democratic process in the essence is violated by stealing votes, violation of the Constitution, organized crime installed in institutions, corrupt government, nepotism and poor justice system. All these things make people to not see a good future for themselves and their children. It makes them doubt in the democratic system and choose illegal ways to achieve their goals.”
The author argues that it is hypocrisy to say that the opposition MPs are violating the democracy while the sons and brothers of government officials win tenders, while the Constitution is violated, and while the politics decides who can and who cannot be brought to justice. “Democracy is harshly violated when the circumstances make it much more easy to be dishonest than honest.”
