“There is no UNESCO with Thaci and others like him” (Koha Ditore)
Political analyst Halil Matoshi in an opinion piece for the paper today writes that Kosovo's Foreign Ministry is trying desperately to present Kosovo’s failure in UNESCO as a victory. “Hashim Thaci and his team need to explain to Kosovo citizens how is it possible that 15 countries who have recognized Kosovo have not voted in favor of Kosovo's membership in this organization,” Matoshi writes. Even though, he argues that out of five European countries that have not recognized Kosovo, Romania and Greece abstained from voting, which shows a move from their position in regards to Kosovo’s independence.
The author further suggests that the government of Kosovo should loudly and urgently make it clear to Serbia that if its officials are hostile and racist towards Kosovo and if Serbia prevents Kosovo's membership in international organizations, then the whole agreement on normalization of relations and the agreement on Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities might be suspended or even annulled. “The government of Kosovo must submit a memorandum to Brussels through which it informs the EU that Kosovo and its people are not able to endure the humiliation of Serbia and its officials. The EU-brokered agreements are not only in Kosovo’s benefit, but Serbia’s too.”
