Kosovo needs an Albanian majority government (Tribuna)
Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, member of the presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), writes that many people talk about reserved and guaranteed seats for minority communities in Parliament, “but only a few people mention the fact that the Constitution of Kosovo obliges us to have minority communities represented in the government”. “In such circumstances, whoever wins the elections, minorities must be a part of the government. What needs to change however is the representation of the Albanian majority in the government. The Thaci 2 government was also known as a minority government. Not because it included representatives of minorities but because it represented a smaller number of Albanian voters compared to opposition parties. As a result, the Albanian majority, in 2010-2014, was in the opposition. The majority will of the sovereign was left outside the government, thus enabling the Thaci government to be formed with 26 votes of minority communities represented in Parliament”. Osmani argues that the next government needs to have the votes of the Albanian majority, “as it is important for the people of Kosovo to be represented by a government that represents the Albanian majority”.
