Serbs go for elections, so Albanians would not take over control of north (Serbian media)

Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija have made the decision to participate in the forthcoming mayoral elections in the northern Kosovo municipalities, Serbian media report. This was stated after the meeting of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and political representatives of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija. As it was announced, the decision was taken to prevent Albanians take over control of the north in Kosovo and Metohija by 0.1 or 1 percent (of votes). Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director Marko Djuric said Serb representatives and Serbian people in Kosovo will not allow Albanians take over the north with political and other methods. Speaking after the meeting, Djuric added Serbs will not allow Albanians to use the forthcoming early elections, and by placing their own candidates, take over the control of the north. “Serbian representatives and the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija will not allow Albanian political representatives to, because of the boycott, take over, get hold of and occupy the most responsible functions of the Serb representatives in Kosovo and to use it to further disenfranchise and fragment Serbian political corpus and take over a full control of the north of Kosovo,” Djuric said. He added the plan and hope of the Albanians in Pristina, and probably, as he said, part of those who are supporting them, was that Serbs in the north would voluntarily step aside and let them run the Serbian institutions. “They can do whatever they want and appoint people who won 5 or 10 votes, as it was the case in the past, before the Serbian people gathered around Serbian List,” Djuric noted. A second conclusion was that Serbian representatives would make decisions on further steps and actions regarding the participation in Pristina institutions, after additional consultations that President Vucic would have in April and May with the world officials regarding Kosovo and Metohija. Djuric emphasized the Serb representatives from Kosovo have agreed to act united in a political sense during the forthcoming period, gathered around Serbian List and would not allow Albanian political representatives to cause any sort of division among the Serbs in Kosovo. “Being it among the Serbs in the north and the south of Kosovo, or division they attempt to achieve by bribing the Serb representatives,” Djuric said. He further noted the unity and togetherness around Serbian List is an imperative and a way to survive and the only way to protect and preserve the institutional presence of Serbia in Kosovo and Metohija that is of crucial importance to the existence of the Serbian people there.
