At the crossings required ID card or birth certificate with a photo; Entry with Serbian passport not possible? (RTK2, Kontakt plus radio, KoSSev)
RTK2 reports that several persons reported that they were prevented from crossing the Merdare crossing with a passport issued by Serbian Police Departments.
According to the people who wished to remain anonymous, at the crossing, police officers told them "that it is not possible to pass with a passport issued by the Police Departments of the cities in Serbia, but that valid and recognised is ID card i.e. a valid birth certificate with a photo for children".
Asked by RTK2 whether this information was correct, Kosovo police replied:
"When it comes to freedom of movement / crossing the border between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, it is governed by the 2011 Agreement on Freedom of Movement, to which you can refer as an official response," the police email said.
RTK2 quotes Brussels Agreement on Freedom of Movement, available on the official website of the Office for KiM:
1. The residents of each sides should be able to travel freely within or through the territory of the other side.
2. Each side shall implement, as soon as practically feasible, a system of identity cards for travel of the residents of the other side across the border / administrative line.
3. Each side may apply a system whereby identity cards will be accompanied by written 'entry / exit' documents for residents of the other side who wish to transit to a third country.
