Rakic rejects Borhard’s assessment on growing confidence in the EULEX (Blic)
Mayor of Kosovska Mitrovica north, Goran Rakic rejected the assessment of EULEX chief Bernd Borhart that residents of northern Kosovo are increasingly satisfied with the EU mission.
“We, mayors from northern Kosovo and Metohija, and especially people who live in the north, are not satisfied with the work of EULEX, as claimed by Mr. Borhard. Of course that we all stand for the rule of law and are committed to getting free of the burden of organized crime, drug dealers and perpetrators of serious crimes, but these issues are not addressed by the EULEX courts and prosecution,” said Rakic.
According to him, the EU mission "came out of its mandate" and is not status neutral. “Prosecution and the courts must be independent in their work and we do not want to influence their work, but we ask that Serbs have the same rights as other defendants who are often treated leniently and even forgiven when they escape from the detention facility,” said Rakic.
EULEX chief Bernd Borhart said for today's edition of Politika that satisfaction with the work of EULEX, among the people in the north, was increasing.
