Djuric, Davenport discuss elections in Kosovo-Metohija (Tanjug)
BELGRADE - Marko Djuric, director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija, met on Thursday with Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Michael Davenport to discuss the situation in Kosovo-Metohija (KiM).
Djuric and Davenport discussed the continuation of the Brussels dialogue (on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina) and Serbia's further progress on the EU integration pathway.
The talks also tabled the participation of the Serb community in the parliamentary elections in KiM scheduled for June 8, reads a statement by the Office for Kosovo-Metohija.
Djuric presented the details relating to the election procedures and process and problems that Serbs in KiM and displaced persons have come across in exercising their voting rights.
The Kosovo Central Electoral Commission altered the law in the course of the election process and introduced a threshold for minority communities, and also decided that the ballots should bear the symbols of Kosovo's statehood.
Therefore, the Serb List boycotted the election campaign calling for the abolishment of the election threshold for minority communities and status-neutrality of the ballots in line with the Brussels agreement.
However, upon the urge of the Serbian government and officials, they decided to take part in the elections and win the greatest possible number of seats so that they could fight for the rights and interests of the Serb community in the Kosovo parliament.
