PACE: EU countries to recognize Kosovo (Vecernje Novosti)

MPs of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament have adopted a resolution on Serbia and Kosovo, welcoming the opening of negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the EU and progress in the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, noting that the recognition of Kosovo, by five EU member states, would help in improving those relations.

MPs urged both Belgrade and Pristina to make progress in the implementation of the agreements reached, indicating that it is a condition for Serbia's progress towards EU membership. Resolution on Serbia's progress drafted by the rapporteur David McAllister was supported by 50 MPs, two were against and four abstained. Ulrike Lunacek, rapporteur for Kosovo, urged the five EU member states to recognize Kosovo, so that the EU could complete its official stance towards the independence of Pristina.
