Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini today in Strasbourg signed the Stabilization/Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the EU. Mustafa, after signing the accord said that this is one of the most important days for Kosovo. “Today, my country officially entered into contractual relations with the European Union. This agreement confirms Kosovo’s path towards the EU. This is a road of strengthening democracy and building the rule of law and a road of political stability and economic prosperity,” Mustafa said, adding that Kosovo's European integration process will be followed by full commitment by the Kosovo institutions in partnership with the EU.
The EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, said that there has been a lot of work from both sides. "We expect this accord to enter into force as soon as possible. After that, there will be many benefits for the people of Kosovo and the European Union for the stability and integration of the region. It is a good moment,” Mogherini said. The EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, said that this is a major milestone in bilateral relations, in particular when it comes to Kosovo's European aspirations. “The EU-Kosovo agreement will bring reforms, will increase the opportunities for investment and trade, will help in the development of the country and create new employment opportunities for young people in particular. This is a powerful statement of Kosovo in the path towards the European Union,” Hahn said.
