Rama calls on UN members including Serbia to recognize Kosovo (VoA, Koha)

The Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, called on the United Nations member states, including Serbia to recognize independence of Kosovo. Rama said during his speech at the UN General Assembly that unresolved disagreement between Kosovo and Serbia continues to hinder development of the entire region.

“The time has come for all the members of this Assembly, especially our Serbian friends, to recognize independent Kosovo, in order to do justice to the history and recognize the reality as well as build a better future. Independent Kosovo is a reality and there is no return, and it prosperity on state-building cannot be denied,” Rama said.

He added that it is of importance to give the opportunity to Kosovo to become member of all international and regional organisations, where every sovereign and independent country belongs.

He also called the fact that Kosovo remains isolated, unjustifiable.

“The time has come for the European Union to enable Kosovo’s traveling without visas, as it did for the other parts of the region,” Rama said.

Slovenian MEP and rapporteur for visa liberalisation for Kosovo, Tanja Fajon, said she was pleased that the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) reconfirmed her mandate to negotiate with EU countries on visa liberalisation for Kosovo and said she will do all in her power to enable the people of Kosovo to travel freely to Europe as soon as possible.

At the same time, noted Fajon, "Kosovo authorities need to continue implementing all necessary requirements for visa liberalisation. We all need to work together closely. I expect the Finnish Presidency of the European Union and the newly-elected European Council bring back the Kosovo issue in the agenda."

"I would not want to speculate about a possible date at the moment but I hope this happens very soon," Fajon said.

Fajon said that recently had a very “direct” and “sincere” meeting with Finland's interior minister, where she reiterated that Kosovo has met all criteria for visa-free travel. "I urged her to bring back to the table the issue of visa liberalisation for Kosovo."

Acting Deputy Prime Minister and candidate for MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Enver Hoxhaj, said dialogue with Serbia should resume in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo.

“If we want to conclude Kosovo’s state-building, we think that this can be reached through dialogue and with the U.S. support. We have to increase number of recognitions and membership at international organisations. Dialogue with Serbia should develop in accordance with the Constitution. We will not discuss with Serbia about any issue that touches territory, sovereignty, independence and our constitutional order. We have a clear agenda which issues should be addressed in relation with Serbia, issues that concern the past, Serbia’s committed crimes in Kosovo, the fate of the missing persons to the issues which concern economic cooperation,” Hoxhaj said.

Hoxhaj said the imposed tariff on Serbian goods was a temporary measure and it should be lifted.

Trajkovic: I was offered videotape copy of Ivanovic’s murder (RTK)

Former Kosovo Assembly MP and current leader of the Serbs’ European Party Rada Trajkovic claims she was offered by non-transparent circles a videotape where the murder of Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic’s murder in Mitrovica North was recorded.

“They told me that one copy was given to someone from state authorities, and the other one was offered to me. I said I would not give or take money, and that evidence, if they have them, should be offered to prosecutor Syla in Pristina,” Trajkovic said.

Trajkovic started her election campaign in Mitrovica North, at the place Oliver Ivanovic was murdered.

“Prior to going to Mitrovica, I underwent extreme pressure. They told me that different Mafiosi groups were waiting for me there and that they would kill me. They even came at the headquarters of our “Sloboda” coalition,” Trajkovic said.

“I still keep Oliver’s message sent to me five days before his murder, which reads ‘they might kill me, but I cannot stop, because I would embarrass my family. This is not the pride of my family,’” Trajkovic told Serbian media.
