Altercation between police officers in northern Mitrovica (Kosovapress)
Citing unnamed sources, Kosovapress reports on an altercation between two members of Kosovo Police in northern Mitrovica today. According to sources, Ugljesa Jaredic, a former member of the Serbian Ministry of Interior Affairs and current commander of the Rapid Reaction Unit in the Kosovo Police station in northern Mitrovica, has attacked a member of his unit, Miodrag Janicijevic. “For several months now, there have been tensions between Kosovo police officers in the north who joined the police force earlier and former MUP members who have recently joined Kosovo Police. Former MUP officers feel superior vis-à-vis other police officers. Their behavior is extremely arrogant and in many cases they don’t follow orders. As a result, there was an incident today when Ugljesa entered an office and cut off the TV cables. Janicijevic, another police officer, opposed him and that’s when the fight broke out,” sources said.
Sources also said that Janicijevic filed a report after the altercation, demanding an urgent transfer to Pristina or somewhere else saying that he is unable to carry out his duties in the north. “Janicijevic is not the only one; many other police officers have similar problems with former MUP members but they are afraid to talk about them,” sources said. Kosovapress tried to contact police officers in the north, but they were not available for comment.
