Collaku: Irregular migration might have consequences (Radio Kosova)
Kosovo’s Minister of European Integration, Bekim Collaku, told Radio Kosova that the growing trend of irregular migration might have indirect consequences on European Union’s (EU) decision-making on visa liberalization. “Naturally, irregular migration can cause panic and dissatisfaction among member states of the EU when it comes time to take a decision for Kosovo. We [the government of Kosovo] are alarmed and we are undertaking all appropriate actions to address this issue,” said Collaku. According to him, Kosovo should be evaluated on its performance in meeting the criteria set out by the roadmap for visa liberalization. Collaku also said that Kosovo this year expects to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union. “Besides the SAA, we are also in the final phase of addressing the remaining criteria for visa liberalization in accordance with the roadmap that we got in 2012,” added Collaku. He added that Kosovo cannot have a future in the EU if its institutions don’t seriously combat organized crime and corruption.
