Kurti: Mustafa and Thaci have sold out to Serbia (Koha/News24)
Vetevendosje MP Albin Kurti said in an interview for News24 on Tuesday that he will not stop until “the agreement on the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro are annulled”. Kurti explained how he was detained by police and said that he was later released only due to protests by Vetevendosje supporters. “I was returning from Skopje to Pristina, and in the outskirts of the city a Kosovo Police task force with 15 officers stopped us and asked me to step out of the car. I asked for an arrest warrant but they said the order was given by the prosecutor; they did not say however who the prosecutor was. After I refused their order, they took me out of the car by force and on our way to the police station promised me that they would show me the arrest warrant there. They did not show me the warrant when we reached the police station. I was interviewed by investigators and not by a prosecutor. They told me that I was detained and not arrested, and when I asked if I could leave they said no. They wanted to interview me about what had happened in the Assembly but I gave them no statement. This is all about the teargas in the Kosovo Assembly. The prosecutor never showed up. They [police] could hold me for six hours but released me after three hours only as a result of protests,” Kurti said.
The former Vetevendosje leader said his would not allow the Assembly to hold its sessions. “Vetevendosje is adamant in its opposition to the Association [of Serb-majority municipalities] and the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. We will not allow the Assembly to hold its sessions. With the agreement on the Association, Mustafa will create another Bosnia in Kosovo. The border demarcation agreement gives away 9,000 hectares to Montenegro. We are determined not to stop until these damaging and shameful agreements are withdrawn”.
Kurti justified the violent actions used by the opposition in the Assembly, saying that there can be no majority against the Republic. “There can be no majority against the Republic. The ruling coalition cannot rebel against the Republic of Kosovo by installing a Trojan horse, namely the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities”.
Kurti explained why the Vetevendosje Movement opposes the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities saying that this mechanism will have full competencies in all areas, it will have access to the Kosovo system but the government will not have access to these municipalities. “There are 10 Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo as a result of the Ahtisaari Plan. Now these municipalities want to join forces against Kosovo. The Association will have full competencies in many areas. It will have its own assembly, president and vice president, its flag; it will also have the right to enter into relations with other countries, such as Serbia and Russia. The police commander for the north will be a Serb. They will have access to our system, but we won’t have access to theirs. The Association will be funded by Belgrade,” he said.
Kurti said those who accepted these agreements are sold souls and that they now want to sell out Kosovo too. “They don’t think; they are sold souls. They want to sell the state of Kosovo too. The Constitution of Kosovo has been violated. We don’t have a law on referendum. Nine people at the Constitutional Court will decide on this, three of them are foreigners and others are businessmen. The Constitutional Court is neither a Court nor constitutional. Kosovo is faced with a deep crisis as a result of the current government. Mustafa and Thaci have made deals with Serbia and this is the crisis. They are increasing Kosovo’s debt with the International Monetary Fund and at the same time dividing the country,” he added.
