Ymeri: We don’t accept Thaci as president (Voice of America)
The leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Visar Ymeri, in an interview with Voice of America said the election process for the new president of Kosovo was filled with interference and blackmail against the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MPs. He also said the opposition does not accept Hashim Thaci as Kosovo president. "The way the president was elected is absolutely unacceptable. The police brutally dragged the opposition MPs out of the hall and on the other hand the LDK MPs were being blackmailed and forced to vote for Thaci,” Ymeri said, adding the opposition is considering to challenge the election of Hashim Thaci as President of Kosovo before the Constitutional Court.
With regards to the opposition’s methods to block the work of the Assembly, Ymeri said these methods are not violent. “I think releasing teargas in the Assembly is not violent given that the teargas was aimed at blocking the work in the Assembly. It was not intended to hurt anyone and was not directed at any person,” he said. “We have always insisted that this government must resign in order to pave the way for early elections. And we will continue to insist on this because we think we cannot talk about democracy in Kosovo or elsewhere, if the people at the top are people who have violated the Constitution,” Ymeri said.
