Government, opposition start harmonising positions on demarcation (Koha)
Kosovo Assembly President, Kadri Veseli, met today with the chairman and members of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, as part of efforts to strengthen Kosovo’s parliamentary diplomacy and lobbying on issues of special interest to Kosovo. At the meeting it was agreed that parliamentary groups will issue a joint statement on the visa liberalisation process, especially on the criteria of demarcation, giving guarantees to all member states of the European Union that “Kosovo is ready to conclude the delineation of its border with Montenegro” but also taking note of differences between the political parties on the current border delineation. Veseli said that once the statement is drafted and signed it will be followed by a series of visits to EU member states to convince them that Kosovo has met all the criteria in the process and that Kosovo’s citizens deserve to move freely in the Schengen zone. Representatives of the opposition, Pal Lekaj from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and Zafir Berisha from the Initiative for Kosovo, expressed their positions on the current border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, but also said they were committed to be part of the joint statement and the parliamentary diplomacy in lobbying for processes that are of interest to Kosovo. Committee members from the Vetevendosje Movement and the Serbian List did not attend the meeting.
