Thaci: Women’s Week a noble initiative, women can contribute more (media)
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci attended today the opening of the Women’s Week in Kosovo 2017, organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). President Thaci said: “the Women’s Week is a noble initiative; this activity brings together representatives of all political parties and is now known as a platform where participants go beyond their ethnic backgrounds and political affiliations and are joined together in addressing issues that are of interest for the society and state of Kosovo … Topics that are addressed during this week are crucial for moving forward gender representation and gender equality, the budget allocation that reflects gender equality, the development of programs that support business women, all the way to reforms in the judiciary”. Thaci also talked about the participation of women in the security sector and the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force into the Kosovo Army. “I think the voice of women is needed here too. The security sector cannot be complete if it does not include the voice of women. Kosovo’s mothers need security for their children, and Kosovo’s women, regardless of their ethnic background, have to contribute to the architecture of security,” he added.
