The parties in Kosovo have launched their campaigns for the national elections on June 8,  a deadline that gives them little time to get their messages across.

Unlike in previous elections, when parties had up to a month to convince voters to cast their ballots for them, the campaign for these elections will only last ten days.

Due to the lack of time, the agendas of most political parties are quite tight as they plan to hold several activities and meetings with people across the country.

The Central Election Commission, CEC, has certified 30 political parties with 1,235 candidates for the elections and has urged parties to run their campaigns in line with the law.

“The Central Election Commission invites political parties to act in line with the Kosovo constitution, the law on general elections and rules for elections set by the CEC during this campaign in order to create a positive atmosphere,” Valmir Elezi, the CEC spokesperson, told Balkan Insight.

Several parties started campaigning before the official campaign was launched, while some television stations have been holding debates on the elections.

By law, such parties could be punished for violating the rules of the electoral campaign.
