Fight fire with fire (Koha Ditore)

Adriatik Kelmendi writes that despite the fact that unification of opposition parties in a coalition came at a late phase, the decision will also impact elections in the future.  It became clear after fifteen years that Kosovo has two kinds of parties: those that always gain 22 percent of votes or more, and those that never reach more than 14 percent. He considers that social changes with the support of only fourteen percent of population are difficult therefore coalition of smaller parties could represent an alternative.

The events during the 30 hours after the 8 June elections, appeared to be sufficient to create a completely new specter in Kosovo’s political scene, which could increase efficiency of both governing coalitions and those who remain in opposition. “We have to admit that these elections had two winners. The first one is of course Thaçi with majority of votes and the second is Fatmir Limaj for managing to pass the threshold. If Limaj failed to pass the threshold, unification of opposition would have been difficult.

An English saying says “fight fire with fire.” Being also aware of Fatmir Limaj’s and Jakup Krasniqi’s role in creation of the coalition, it means that only a former member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo knows how to build a plan to overcome this unbeatable party. Their credit should be recognized, concludes Kelmendi.
