Borders of understanding with Serbia (Koha Ditore)
Augustin Palokaj writes that what Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said during his recent visit to Serbia, on how independence of Kosovo is an irreversible reality, was not some heroic or patriotic act but it was a presentation of Albanian Government’s position on Kosovo which should be voiced in the same way be it in Tirana or Belgrade. If the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, had not reacted in “such a pathetic” manner, Rama’s statement would not have made such a huge impression in the public. But it was precisely Vucic’s reaction that gave Rama’s statement a new dimension. “The more the politicians and public in Serbia become angered, the more loved becomes he who told them the truth to their face”, writes Palokaj. He says that there has been an excess of understanding for Serbia by the international community which always feared how Serbia would react to certain developments in the region, but this has not helped Belgrade because it only adds to the growth of illusions.
