Meucci, seek the blame for failure in your own backyard (Koha Ditore)
Koha Ditore editor-in-chief Agron Bajrami writes in a reaction claims that in a meeting with representatives of Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), head of EULEX Gabriele Meucci and EU Special Representative Samuel Zbogar, chose no words to discredit Koha Ditore by saying it has not reported the truth and wants to destroy EULEX mission. Bajrami says the paper does not want the destruction and departure of EULEX. “The destruction and departure of EULEX is wanted by those who refuse to address misuses, corruption, political manipulation and other failures in EULEX, by shifting the blame to Koha Ditore,” Bajrami argues. He adds that the paper stands by everything it has reported so far regarding the allegations of EULEX and EU interference in the so-called Klecka case where the main defendant was NISMA founder Fatmir Limaj. He says the two stories published in the paper are based on reliable sources and EULEX has been given the opportunity to give its version of the story. However, goes on Bajrami, EULEX did not refute anything that was reported and stuck to generalized statements such as “the mission takes all allegations of staff behavior very seriously.” Alike the previous writings regarding corruption allegations inside EULEX, the EU mission, instead of dealing with problems in its own ranks, chose to go on the offensive by threatening the Koha Ditore reporter with a lawsuit. The paper considers Meucci’s efforts, along with EU’s implicit approval, a direct attack on the freedom of the press, adds Bajrami.
