Jahjaga’s final service (Kosova Sot)
The paper’s front-page editorial argues that the international commission engaged by President Atifete Jahjaga to evaluate the border demarcation process with Montenegro “did not issue any surprising statement but rather expressed support for the work and assessment of the local commission appointed by the Kosovo government”. “There are many uncertainties in the public about this process and it is suspected that it could have been compromised and therefore kept far from the public eye the whole time … The fact that the President ignored local experts and relied only on the work of the government commission and the international experts, makes the whole process even less reliable. Since September last year, the country is in a deep crisis as a result of two agreements, one of them being the border demarcation with Montenegro. Ignoring the voice of the opposition will not help resolve this problem. Chances are that we could face tense situations very soon. Montenegro understood this best and said that it was willing to review the demarcation process even before the Kosovo government made a statement. It seems that with the ‘findings’ of the international commission, Jahjaga did one final service to the coalition that has seized not only the state but its borders too,” the editorial notes.
