Williamson announces filing of indictments against KLA central figures (Koha)
The lead prosecutor of the EU Special Investigative Task Force (SITF), Clint Williamson, did not rule out the possibility that there were executions in Kosovo for organ harvesting purposes but that during the investigations he led he was unable to find sufficient evidence to file an indictment.
However, he said that war crimes indictments can be expected against KLA central figures. Williamson said there are enough evidence to support charges of other crimes that are considered war crimes be it because they violated laws of warfare or Kosovo domestic laws.
Williamson dismissed reports that future investigations and indictments that will be filed will be directed against the KLA. They will be against individuals who have stained the just liberation war of those who fought for the freedom of the country and the people.
Lead prosecutor Williamson spoke at lengths about the efforts and difficulties he and his team faced in trying to get to the bottom of allegations of organ trafficking and war crimes contained in the report by the Swiss senator Dick Marty due to the time lapse or psychological and spiritual state of those who had to testify.
For some of the offenses, Williamson said that there is a statute of limitation.
He stressed the danger from possible intimidation to the witnesses as an attack on rule of law efforts. He raised concerned about the fate of the missing persons whose number continues to be high and said that this will be one of the priorities of the investigations which are still ongoing.
Speaking about the establishment of the Special Court, Williamson said he hoped the Assembly of Kosovo will be formed as soon as possible which will pave way for the Special Court to be put in place.
Asked by the Kohavision reporter on whether certain individual from the so-called Drenica Group will be indicted, Williamson said he did not wish to comment in details but added that there will be indictments against individuals at the most senior level of the KLA.
