Trial to Oliver Ivanovic and four other Serbs resumes today (Danas)
The trial to Oliver Ivanovic, Dragoljub Delibasic, Ilija Vujacic, Nebojsa Vujacic and Aleksandar Lazovic will resume today at the Basic Court in North Mitrovica. A main witness in trial against Ivanovic, with regard to events from April 1999, is supposed to give his testimony today.
“This is probably the most important day for the trial against Ivanovic, the defense is completely ready. A witness, in our view, gave a false statements and didn’t say the truth in the course of investigation. We are ready, and I hope for the good,” said Ivanovic’s lawyer Ljubomir Pantovic to Tanjug.
The trial against five Serbs had started officially on 18 December and they will be tried on the basis of the common indictment filed by the international prosecutor of the Special Kosovo Prosecutor’s Office, Sezari Malcuku, on 11 August 2014.
Ivanovic is charged for leading the ‘bridge watchers’ in 1999 and instigating them to commit war crimes against the Albanian population.
Dragoljub Delibasic is charged for committing a crime against the Albanian population, in his capacity as a commander of the police station in Kosovska Mitrovica, in complicity with Oliver Ivanovic. Whereas Ilija Vujacic, Nebojsja Vujacic and Aleksandar Lazovic are charged for committing murders and attempted murders in their capacity of the ‘bridge watchers in 2000.
Trial is set to start today at 10:00 and will last three consecutive days 21, 22 and 23 January.
