Brussels request from Serbia to slacken relations with Banja Luka (Vecernje Novosti)
Brussels is preparing a new list of the requests for Serbia in regards to Kosovo and Metohija, but also in regards to the relation with Moscow and Republika Srpska. The list could be soon presented as a condition for opening the Chapter 31 on foreign and security policy, learned Vecernje Novosti.
According to our information, most probably will be requested revision of the Strategy of National Security and Strategy of Defence which were adopted in 2009, with the explanation that circumstances in the world have been changed. There is possibility that all of that has one aim – that Serbia gives up Kosovo within those strategies as in the other documents, to distance itself from Russia, to slacken links with Banja Luka and set EU membership as the most important goal of foreign policy.
Brussels will insist on decreasing of the accent which was put on Kosovo within the Strategy of Defence, where Kosovo secession was described as a highest security threat for Serbia. The EU is also anxious by ‘the stressed commitment for developing the new dimensions of special relations with Russia.’
For EU is also disputable that Serbia, with these strategic documents, committed itself to development of special relations with Banja Luka, deepening of links with China, India and Brazil and renewal and strengthening of relation with non-aligned countries.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed that Brussels is preparing the new list of requests: “Chapter 31 was never difficult in negotiation processes. But now there are some insinuations that EC could introduce some criteria in the case of Serbia.”
