Kosovo platform to be sent to MPs during summer (Vecernje Novosti, B92)
President Tomislav Nikolic's platform for Kosovo could be on the agenda of the national assembly at the earliest in late July or early August.
The daily Vecernje Novosti writes that "expert and political communities, but also leading national institutions will give their opinion on the proposal in order to achieve as broader a social consensus as possible before the final debate in parliament."
The Beta news agency is quoting the paper as reporting that according to the document, the future community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo "should be a province within Kosovo modeled after provinces in the former (Yugoslav) federation, and have strong institutional and financial ties with Belgrade."
"The central idea of the document" is that it calls on all previous resolutions on the fundamental position that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo.
According to the report, "parliament's dilemma will certainly be the degree of autonomy of the community of Serb municipalities, as well as the position of Kosovo within Serbia."
The platform also envisages special status for the Serb enclaves.
One of its parts refers to the north of Kosovo, "which should be treated in accordance with the Constitution of Serbia, while the territory outside the north, that is outside where the community of municipalities should be formed, would have the treatment (ethnic) Albanians had during the existence of the SFRJ (former Yugoslavia)."
