Family of Oliver Ivanovic "won't be returning to Kosovo" (B92, BETA, Tanjug, Blic)

Citizens were offering condolences on Thursday morning in front of a church in Belgrade for the slain Serb politician from Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic.

Accepting the condolences were members of Ivanovic's family, including his window Milena Popovic-Ivanovic.

Oliver Ivanovic will be buried later in the day in the Alley of Distinguished Citizens in Belgrade's New Cemetery.

Telegraf.rs is reporting today that Milena Popovic-Ivanovic said she and her young child would not be returning to Kosovo.

"My son and I are done with Kosovska Mitrovica, the town of fear, darkness and pain. Our Oliver gave his life for Kosovo and for Serbdom, and when he pleaded for help, asked for protection, there was nobody there. Now they say he is a hero, but where were those people who are praising him now when we needed them the most," she is quoted as saying.

Although there have been various speculations, Tanjug is reporting that the government will be represented at the funeral by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric.

Paying their respects today at the New Cemetery was also former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, former Coordinator for Kosovo and Metohija Nebojsa Covic, DS leader Dragan Sutanovac, and others.

The Orthodox funeral service today will be led by Bishop Teodosije.
