Stance of German Government did not change (Danas)
The stance of the German Government did not change. We expect comprehensive normalization of relations through the signing of legally binding agreement.
This was a response from the German Embassy in Belgrade given to Danas daily, following the statement of Bundestag member Peter Beyer, who said that Serbia should "de jure" recognize Kosovo in order to join the EU.
Meanwhile, Danas interlocutors from the Washington diplomatic circles said that the idea on delineation as possible solution to the Kosovo issue “is practically dead.”
“Now the focus would be again on the establishment of the Association/Community of Serb-majority Municipalities with executive powers and Serbia in return should not block Kosovo from becoming a UN member,” Danas sources claim.
They also added, the US administration because of the resolution of Kosovo issue does not support possibility of holding extraordinary elections in Serbia. “Washington believes that election campaign and elections would prolong finding a solution for Kosovo for six months, something that is not in American interests, and they would actively advocate to resolve this decade-long issue in the next couple of months,” diplomats told Danas daily.
