Jeremic: Platform for talks with Pristina must be grounded on Constitution (Beta, N1)

Former Foreign Affairs Minister and leader of opposition People’s Party Vuk Jeremic said that Belgrade’s platform in talks with Pristina must be grounded on the UN’s Resolution 1244 and the Constitution of Serbia.

“Neither in cases of Cyprus and Ireland or any other territorial dispute after the World War II any side was ever ready to formally and in peace give up on a part of its territory. Serbia shouldn’t do it either,” Jeremic told Slobodna TV (Free TV), commenting on Belgrade-Pristina talks on the normalization of relations.

He assessed that “negotiations on Kosovo over the past seven years were amateurish,” because the Albanians irreversibly got everything going in their favor, such as dissolving of the Serbian state’s bodies in the north of Kosovo and international call code, while the Community of Serb Municipalities, which was the only agreed thing going in favor of the Serbs, remained a dead letter.

Jeremic was acting as the Foreign Minister of Serbia in 2008 when Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia, which the official Belgrade never recognized.
